Now Hiring: French Translator/Interpreter in the UNI Museum at Rod Library
The Library is hiring a French Translator/Interpreter in the UNI Museum to support the Research on Migration of Sacred African Collections Abroad project. The student in this position will assist the research team to host, record, and document meetings with a variety of interview subjects who reside in Africa. The student will join all meetings to help create a conversation flow and allow for more clear understanding. Outside of the scheduled meetings, the student will work on transcribing documents and videos and preparing subtitles for all recordings completed throughout the project.
Specific duties include:
- Translates key documents related to the research project.
- Serves as primary translator during phone calls, zoom meetings, or other key contact points including emails, phone class, etc.
- Transcribes any/all video recordings and help with subtitles.

Hourly Wage Rate: $13.00/hour
Hours Per Week: 10 during academic year, Fall and Spring only
Schedule: Must be flexible with working hours to accommodate time-zone differences.
Preferred start date: October 20, 2025
Required qualifications:
- Native French speaker or have at least 6 years of fluent French speaking.
- Must be flexible with working hours to accommodate time-zone differences.
Preferred qualifications:
- French speaker studying TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Official Language)
- French Major at University of Northern Iowa
- Familiarity with subtitles and video software
- Experience working with a public audience
