Now Hiring! Research Assistant for the UNI Museum’s Rural School Collection - Rod Library
The Library is hiring a Research Assistant in the UNI Museum for the Rural School Collection. The student in this position will perform collections related duties within the Rural School Collection. In addition, they will also provide research and reference services.
Specific duties include:
- Rehouses materials into archival folders and boxes
- Creates index labels for microfilm holdings
- Fulfills research and reference requests
- Updates the museum database and/or other archival systems
- Scans documents to update digital database
- Reorganizes the rural school collections

- Critical Thinking: Applies research knowledge and independent judgment to identify, organize, and reassemble mixed collections, while resolving inconsistencies in historical documentation.
- Technology: Uses digital collection management systems and scanning documentation processes to update records and enhance accessibility for researchers.
- Career & Self-Development: Gains specialized hands-on experience in historical research, database entry, and collections care, laying the foundation for professional work in museums and/or academic research.
Number of Openings: 1
Hourly Wage Rate: $13.00/hour
Hours Per Week: 8-10 during academic year
Schedule: Work hours will be scheduled between 8:00 a.m.-4:30 pm. Monday-Friday with no weekend or evening hours. Summer hours are available.
Preferred start date: November 19, 2025
Required qualifications:
- Basic skills in historical research
- Awarded a degree or working on a degree in history or anthropology
