Position Overview
The Desk Assistant is a work study position only that supports the daily operations of the Office of Academic Advising by providing front desk coverage, assisting with student check-ins, and contributing to other project /program administrative and outreach tasks.
Job Description & Responsibilities
- Daily Responsibilities
- Provide reception desk coverage, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Check in students for scheduled appointments with Staff or Peer Academic Advisors
- Provide notification of appropriate individuals
- Check in drop-in students to the office.
- Provide notification of appropriate individual
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the front office reception area.
- Make appointment reminder phone calls/messaging on behalf of academic or peer advisors.
- Other/Project-Based Responsibilities
- Conduct phone and messaging outreach to promote office programs, events, and workshops
Training & Requirements
- Students will have knowledge of or receive training on:
- Staff roles and services offered by the Office of Academic Advising
- Use of office technology and tools, including:
- Office of Academic Advising Check-In System
- Google Calendar
- Google Documents
- Zoom Phone
- Google Chat
- FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) compliance and confidentiality standards
