Personal Trainer
Position Summary
The Personal Trainer provides safe, effective, and individualized fitness instruction to UNI students, faculty, staff, and recreation members. Personal Trainers work one-on-one with clients to assess fitness goals, develop personalized exercise programs, demonstrate proper exercise techniques, and provide motivation and support throughout each training session.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conduct individualized personal training sessions in a safe, professional, and inclusive environment.
- Assess clients' fitness goals, needs, abilities, and experience to help develop appropriate training programs.
- Design and implement individualized exercise programs based on client goals and fitness levels.
- Demonstrate and teach proper exercise form, technique, and equipment use.
- Use effective motivation, communication, and coaching techniques to support clients in reaching their goals.
- Follow all Recreation Services policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Participate in required training, meetings, continuing education, and evaluations.
- Help promote a positive, welcoming, and inclusive culture within UNI Recreation Services.
Qualifications
- Current or willingness to obtain a nationally recognized personal training certification.
- Completion of UNI Recreation Services' Personal Trainer certification process or equivalent nationally recognized certification.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver individualized exercise programs.
- Ability to motivate, coach, and educate clients in a professional manner.
- Previous personal training, fitness, exercise, or coaching experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
The position requires the ability to actively participate in and demonstrate exercises, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and other physical movements associated with personal training. Personal Trainers should be able to safely demonstrate exercises and proper equipment use and assist clients with appropriate exercise techniques and modifications.
