Additive Manufacturing Polymer Lab Technician

Hands on set up and operation of polymer printing applications specific to investment casting pattern production in support of accelerating the adoption of Additive Manufacturing in the Metal Casting industry. Position will include CAD applications as well as hands on printer operations/service responsibilities for the following technologies:
  • Stereolithographic (SLA) printing
  • Wax printing
  • Binder Jet Plastic Printing (Infiltrated PMMA)
  • Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)
In addition, this position may include the following job responsibilities:
  • Mold Gating/Rigging
  • DesignSolidification
  • Simulation for Optimized Design
  • Laser Scanning for Reverse Engineering & Measurement
  • Conversion of Laser Scanning data to Solid Model Geometry
  • Investment casting shell building
  • Subtractive Manufacturing/Robotic Sand Milling Geometry and toolpath development
Student CAD Designers will support the processing and operation of all technologies available in the lab. They will support both research and production activities under the guidance and direction of the Project Manager.
Student employees are available to work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year. A minimum of 12 hours per week is expected, in minimum increments of 2-hour shifts. Outside of the academic year, students are encouraged to work 8 hours per day up to 40 hours per week (Semester breaks and Spring Break week). Employment is available year round based on the Metal Casting Center workload.
