Rod Library - Library Services Building Monitor

Job Description:
1. Act as Supervisor on Duty in the absence of library staff.
2. Perform opening and closing procedures during hours that full-time staff are not scheduled.
3. Perform all duties of Library Student Assistants including additional tasks such as creating and updating patron records, issuing visitor passes, placing holds on items, and answering basic reference questions.
4. Building Monitors must learn and be prepared to implement procedures in case of emergencies.
5. Building Monitors will be responsible for doing rounds including closing rounds to check the condition of the building.
6. Assist patrons, faculty, and staff with printers, copiers, scanners and the fax machine.
7. Limited direct supervision over other students in the absence of regular library staff.
8. Assist in training new Library Student Assistants, as well as working with current student assistants to improve their work skills.
9. Ensure that daily departmental tasks assigned to student employees are completed.
10. Must be able to work some nights and weekends.
11. Perform other library work and duties as directed.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be enrolled at least half time in current semester. Applicants must be mature, reliable, punctual, dependable, and demonstrate initiative while performing duties both accurately and efficiently. Must have good communication skills. Previous library work or equivalent experience required.

Hours Required per Week: 10-20
