UNI Bookstore Customer Service Assistant

Work in a variety of areas of the store in assisting customers and doing a variety of tasks. Areas include: cashier, clothing, teacher resources, customer service desk, text books, art supplies, and souvenirs. Must be customer focused and motivated to assist them in finding the items they need. Some areas require lifting boxes, hanging and straightening shelves, light cleaning, standing for period of time, and answering telephones. Work hours are based on business need.
 
Positions open:
Seasonal - Dates from August 1 to October 30. This position will be called back when business warrants - breaks, summer, weekends, game days. This will be helping in Textbooks and working with our systems to process. Looking for data entry and attention to detail and want to work.
 
Permanent – Work consistently each week.
Summer and Fall employment needed: Positions in each department are available.
 
Store Hours:
Standard Hours: Monday-Thursday 9 am - 5:30 pm; Friday 9am - 5pm, Saturday 10am - 5pm; Sundays are closed with exception to family weekend, homecoming, December and the Sunday before school starts each semester. Hours for Sundays are varied.
 
During Breaks 10am - 5pm Monday through Saturday. Breaks are Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Break.
 
Position descriptions:
 
Cashier:
Give a lasting impression to our guests by greeting them as they come and go. You will also assist the customers by totaling their merchandise through our register system. Deliver great customer service to ensure the guest leaves with confidence in shopping with us. Answer questions for the guests. Handle money and process payments according to our cash handling policies. Light cleaning involved. Other duties as assigned.
 
Customer Service Desk:
Like to stay busy and assist customers with varied needs. You will help process outgoing mail for customers (USPS, FedEx, and UPS), handle customer returns, count down cash drawers, answer the telephone for incoming calls, work with multiple computer processes, handle customer conflict, and create a pleasant experience. Light cleaning involved. Other duties as assigned.
 
Clothing and Souvenirs:
Help customers find the right shirt, hat, jacket or gift. Assist our online guests by processing internet generated orders, hanging and folding clothing, displaying in items in an attractive manner, answer email questions from guests, consistently work on maintenance to ensure clothing area is attractive. Working at UNI athletic games and other off premise events. Requires weekends and nights past store hours. Lifting and moving boxes of merchandise. Light cleaning involved. Other duties as assigned.
 
Teacher Resources and Trade (books):
Help teachers to be or teachers that are wanting to freshen up their classroom! You will assist with internet orders and emails in regards to merchandise they are requesting, straighten shelves and ensure product is in the correct location and attractive, help solicit to the guests ideas for new merchandise. Unpack boxes and place product on the shelves. Light cleaning involved. Other duties as assigned.
 
Textbooks:
Always wondered how textbooks get on our shelves? Textbooks is where you get to help your fellow classmates find the books they are looking for as well as incoming freshman this summer at orientation.
Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds on carts. Assist our customers in finding the correct book they need through the UNI Bookstore website or here in the store. Learn how books are organized on the shelves to be able to assist customers to find what they need for class. Learn our computer system in order to help students with their textbook needs for the semester. Answer telephones, reply to emails, and process internet orders. Light cleaning involved. Other duties as assigned.
 
Supplies:
Art supplies and business supplies are some of the products you will learn while working in this department. Art supplies include paints, brushes, drawing paper, different drawing instruments, and many other items students need for their art classes. Other supplies are pens, pencils, markers, post-it notes, binders, notebooks and many other items someone would need for class or the office. There is even some electronic items included with the supplies department. Must be able to lift boxes and assist customers in a friendly and helpful way. Stocking and straitening shelves will be just some of the duties that will be assigned. Light cleaning involved. Other duties as assigned.
 
Processing textbooks (Seasonal):
Work with our computer systems strictly processing book orders that have been ordered online. Learn the system to ensure customers orders are processed correctly and accurately.
 
All departments must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Future UNI Bookstore employees should have an interest in customer service and working with the customer to give them a great experience.
