UNI Athletics - sports information

ISO of Panthers who like to have fun at work and dabble in writing, design, social media and all things communication.

Looking for students who want to share the stories of student-athletes and have innovative ways to spice up UNI Athletics’ social media channels. Snappy writing and a pulse on Panther teams is a must for social media work. Mad skills with photography, video and the Adobe Suite are desired.

Candidates should expect to be assigned some tasks. However, to earn Student of the Year honors, the student will dazzle the team with original content ideas that are not assigned.

Several UNI Athletics Communication roles exist, so all interested parties should apply and use the cover letter to indicate skill sets and preferences on tasks. Among the work available (but can you call it work if it’s this much fun?) are writing positions, social media opportunities, graphic work and research tasks.

This position in sports information gives students looking for a career in the sports industry a great foundation and a way to develop a variety of skills.

Sports information employees are the main source of communication for programs and responsible for all public relations, which includes connecting the media with coaches and student-athletes and all releases about UNI teams.

There is an opportunity for design work by creating media guides, notes used at competitions by media, digital programs for fans with roster information and other articles as well as graphics for social media.

In addition to writing press releases, roster updates, game previews and recaps, students are encouraged to get involved in feature writing.

The Athletics Communication staff is the archivist for UNI history and responsible for preserving Panther traditions, which makes the department the go-to spot for reviving forgotten stories. Employees may be asked to verify facts or research other schools for help with previews and recaps.

Student employees have the opportunity to do specific types of work, like strictly design or writing. However, they have the option to do portions of all the duties.

Applicants MUST be eligible for work study to get paid. Hourly rate is $10. If approved by advisor, we can create an internship opportunity. The role is open to those ineligible for on-campus employment if looking for experience. However, we are not able to fund those positions.

Night and weekend hours are likely, but there are opportunities for strictly remote work that can be done at any hour. Must be reliable and ready for a fast-paced working environment.

Past experience is not required. MUST include a cover letter, but a resume is NOT required. Please include past experience and/or relevant classes that you have taken or are in the process of taking. Indicate your availability. We would be interested in knowing the type of work you prefer to do.
