Asst. Resident Dorm Coordinator - UB Summer Program

The Upward Bound TRIO program at the University of Northern Iowa is looking for an Assistant Dorm Coordinator to join the staff for the 2024 Summer Program.

The Upward Bound 2024 Summer Program is a 6-week college prep residential program for eligible high school students (scholars) from the Waterloo Community School District. Participating scholars live in a dorm setting and take courses on the University of Northern Iowa campus (Monday-Friday). Scholars and staff also take part in extracurricular activities that include college visits, theater workshops, and more. This year's program will run June 10-July 23, 2024.

The Assistant Dorm Coordinator is responsible for the direct supervision of residence hall staff (Summer Program Assistants), who are responsible for supervising approximately sixty high school scholars. The Assistant Dorm Coordinator answers to the lead Dorm Coordinator.

Qualifications: College graduate, graduate student from any academic discipline or upperclassman with residence hall supervisory experience. Must have the ability to work with and mentor high school students. Experience working with diverse, low-income, and first-generation high school students is preferred. No outside activity or employment is possible during Upward Bound summer employment. Must have a valid driver’s license on file and pass a background check.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with participant check-in/check-out.
  • Relays questions/calls from parents to permanent staff when needed.
  • Maintains daily record of absent/ill students.
  • Ensures packages and mail are delivered to students.
  • Monitors participants’ behavior while on campus and participating in program activities.
  • Lives in residence hall and is available at all times when participants are in the residence hall.
  • Assists with administrative duties as assigned.
  • Attends all required pre- and in-service training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Signs students in/out and dispenses students’ medications.
  • Performs summer food service check-off.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary/Compensation: As agreed, paid every two weeks over the course of the program; room and board provided.
