Research Assistant - UNI Museum

The UNI Museum is seeking a summer research assistant to conduct research, primarily with resources in the UNI Museum, University Archives, & Digital Scholarship, in planning for the development of exhibits commemorating the university's 150th anniversary. The research assistant also identifies artifacts, documents, photographs, and other materials relevant to UNI's history for display in the exhibit.


Number of Openings: 1

Hourly Wage Rate: $12.00

Hours Per Week: 40

Schedule: Summer only

Preferred start date: May 13, 2024

 

Required qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience conducting historical research in an archives or special collections setting.
  • Research experience with museum and archival materials.
  • Must be able to work with dusty, moldy, and dirty collections. 

     

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Research and/or Public History Experience. 
  • Knowledge of and passion for the history of the University of Northern Iowa and its significance within the broader context of higher education.
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds
