Cultural and Intensive English Program Graduate Assistant

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the various volunteer initiatives through the International Engagement Office including but not limited to: 
    • Family Friendship Program 
    • Retired Senior Volunteer Program 
    • Conversation Partner Program 
    • Talk Tuesday 
  • Assisting in the organization and delivery of specialized Immersion Programs through the Cultural and Intensive English Program (CIEP). 
  • Provide oversight to speciality Immersion Programs when in person on campus throughout the various activities and events within their schedule. 
  • Aid in CIEP Orientation Sessions every 8 weeks throughout the academic year. 
  • Help students and staff members with day to day student support initiatives within the CIEP Program. 
  • Serve as a liaison through activities among CIEP students, campus, and the local community.
  • Maintain and develop the Conversation Partner Program
    • Keep a database for each session of the Conversation Partners’ contact information and activities participation.
  • Work with the OIE Director to coordinate and maintain the International Friendship Program (Host Families) in conjunction with the OIE Graduate Student.
    • Keep a database for the International Friendship Program participants’ contact information per session/semester.
  • In coordination with the CIEP Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator, plan and organize the academic lectures (Culture Talks) and Class Exchanges for CIEP students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail/detail oriented mindset 
  • Experience in working with and leading small and large groups 
  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) 
  • Reliable in program oversight and organization 
  • Willing to take initiative and interact with the larger UNI community and international student body. 
  • Will be attending UNI for at least 1 academic year, if not longer and looking for an applicant willing to commit to 1 year in the position. 
  • Able to work over the Summer (May - August) in a student employee capacity. 
  • Comfortable working with varying degrees of English proficiency
