Library Assistant - Special Collections & University Archives

Now hiring for Fall 2025

Rod Library is hiring two Library Assistants in Special Collections and University Archives (SC&UA).  Library assistants provide support to patrons seeking to use Special Collections & University Archives materials. They also assist SC&UA staff with various tasks related to collections maintenance. Daily tasks include greeting patrons who come into the area, providing research support to visitors, reshelving materials, basic processing and preservation of archival materials, and indexing newspapers and other university publications.  


Students in this position will have the opportunity to gain experience in the following areas to support their future career path:

  • Communication: Students will increase verbal and written communication skills by assisting patrons in the reading room and with digitization requests.
  • Critical thinking: Students will develop skills in critical thinking through navigating archival collections to assist SC&UA staff and patrons with operational and research questions.
  • Teamwork: Students will collaborate with fellow students and SC&UA staff to enhance unit operations and patron experience.
     

Number of Openings: 2
Hourly Wage Rate: $11.00
Hours Per Week: 10
Schedule: Working hours must fall between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
Job Duration: Academic year only (Fall & Spring Semesters)
Preferred start date: 08/25/2025
