Library Assistant - Digital Scholarship

Rod Library is seeking to fill a library assistant position in our Digital Scholarship Unit.
The Rod Library Digital Scholarship Unit is looking for a student to scan text and images from a variety of sources and work on projects related to the University's institutional repository (UNI ScholarWorks), SelectedWorks Faculty Profiles, and Rod Library Digital Collections. The purpose of UNI ScholarWorks is to collect, preserve, and make available the digital research and creative and scholarly output from the University of Northern Iowa community. The Digital Scholarship Unit is open during business hours Monday-Friday. No weekend or evening hours are available or required.
Students in this position will have the opportunity to gain experience in the following areas to support their future career path:
- Critical Thinking: Students will develop the ability to adapt different scanning methods to a variety of physical material.
- Professionalism: Students will be given the opportunity to work independently and maintain high standards of quality without constant direct supervision.
- Technology: Students will become familiar with scanning equipment and scanner settings in order to produce high-quality work.

Hourly Wage Rate: $11.00
Hours Per Week: 15; Hours are flexible. This Summer position has the option to continue into the academic year (Fall 2025 & Spring 2026 semesters).
Job Duration: Continuing throughout the year.
Preferred start date: May 19, 2025
Required qualifications:
- Attention to detail. This position involves scanning print text and images to electronic format. The resulting electronic files are eventually made available to the public so attention to detail and the desire to produce quality work is required.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
- Familiarity with using a computer, Microsoft Office applications, and Google documents and sheets and the ability to learn other computer software.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in an office environment.
